Bryn Oh

Bryn Oh

With a delicate sensibility, Bryn Oh blends contrasting characters where each piece is both narrative and visually rich.  Often the contrast is organic versus mechanical, which is part of Bryn’s signature style. All of them are situational—personalities caught in action. “Cerulean” is a small work of helpless dependency combined with mysterious power. Flight is implied as the butterfly wings flap up and down, (though the wheels on the bottom stay rooted to its platform). It is easy to imagine this intimate rescue of the baby by the butterfly swooping in from above. What is this relationship? Where are they going? Who lost or gave up the baby to be so rescued? There always seems to be a central question in each of Bryn Oh’s pieces. Her work exemplifies the contrast of fantasy and virtual, pushing the definitions of each, through wielding mystery with a deft hand.
