Unifying Themes

Sim Street Journal: Immersive ImpactImmersive Impact: The Best of SSJ #1–18 uses a new format: it is a hybrid edition that brings together all the segments in the Sim Street Journal Collection, built through eighteen issues. Designed to function in-world like a portal, it uses the characteristics of virtual world interaction. This format can’t work the same online, but can express the parallel themes that are explored throughout.

Here, the “best of” content is presented as an overview with a different insight than the in-world portal publication (available in Marketplace). The online and in-world versions have always complimented. This commentary outlines the major themes that form a consistent structure underneath all the articles.

Throughout all the issues, themes of creativity, balance, challenges, advice, prosperity, and emotional equilibrium permeate, surrounding these topics:

1. Exposure—Sensitive people are influenced by their environments.

2. Connections—Given opportunity, people seek a commonality with friends.

3. Inspiration—A ‘renaissance’ is when creative ideas from around the world mingle.

4. Self-knowledge—Adapting to a community means developing universal social skills.

5. Purpose—The creatively curious make focused choices in a wonderland of virtual possibilities.

6. Promotion—audience development and product marketing can be nurtured and practiced.

7. Potential—The virtual world evolution has a collective momentum and a direction.

8. Advice—Every article ends with the contributors’ best advice.
